BILL HOPE
Executive Vice President, SingTel OPTUS, Singapore

Bill Hope is the Executive Vice President (Networks) of Singapore Telecommunications Limited and is responsible for the technology selection, engineering and operation of its fixed and mobile networks in both Singapore and Australia to meet the strategic and operational needs of the Singapore and Australian businesses.    He splits his time between Australia and Singapore working from the Optus Centre, North Sydney and Singapore Telecom’s Headquarters at Comcentre.

From October 2000 until October 2002, he was the Executive Vice President (Network) for Singapore Telecom where he had responsibility for its Singapore based fixed and mobile networks and participated in SingTel’s acquisition of Optus in 2001.  Subsequently, in line with the strategy to integrate the two Network groups, he was posted back to Australia in October 2002.

Prior to his appointment with SingTel, he held the Chief Technical Officer position at Cable and Wireless Optus in Australia from December 1997 until he joined Singapore Telecom in October 2000.  He was responsible for developing the strategic direction, technology, engineering and operation of the Optus Internet, mobile business, fixed line and networks.   A veteran of the telecommunication industry, Bill joined Optus (then known as Aussat) in Australia in 1982 and led the successful program that launched the first Hughes HS601 satellite on the first Chinese Long March 2E rocket.

Before this, he worked in both Australia and the United Kingdom in a variety of technology roles in the energy, mining, refining and satellite communications industries.

Bill was born in the United Kingdom in 1949 and, from 1951 grew up in Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with First Class Honours from the University of Western Australia and was awarded the HC Levey Prize (University Prize for Mathematics).  From 1972 to 1973, he completed his Post Graduate studies in Fluid Mechanics at the Alma Mater.

He enjoys hiking, skiing and swimming and the occasional game of golf.  He currently lives in Sydney with his wife.
