BILL BARNEY
Chief Executive Officer
Asia Netcom
BILL BARNEY was promoted to President and CEO of Asia Netcom in November
2005. Prior to that, Barney was Chief Operating Officer of the company,
a position he has held since joining Asia Global Crossing (AGC) in 2002.
During his period at Asia Netcom, Barney presided over the transformation
of one of Asia’s first Chapter 11 casualties (AGC), into one of
Asia’s leaders in IP and WAN services. Since Asia Netcom’s
launch in 2003, the company has achieved key financial targets and won
numerous industry recognitions including Frost & Sullivan’s
“Data Communications Service Provider of the Year” for 2005
and 2006.
Barney previously served as President of Asia Pacific at MCI WorldCom
where he managed the industry’s fastest growing regional company
through an industry leading three-digit growth phase. During Barney’s
tenure at WorldCom and UUNET, the company received numerous accolades
for its technology leadership in IP services while also being recognized
twice as Asia’s Telecom Employer of the Year.
Prior to joining WorldCom, Barney was Vice President of Global One, where
he managed operations in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa. Barney
began his career with AT&T, where he held a number of key sales and
management roles in the international division and domestic sales group.
Barney received his MBA from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Wesleyan University.
