National Security Lawful Interception & Privacy
Organized by

National security, law enforcement and privacy are three of the most "loaded" terms in our industry today. While telecom has a long history of cooperating with law enforcement in implementing wire taps, the USA Patriot Act provided security and intelligence agencies with far greater power to conduct electronic surveillance – and forced operators to make significant technology investments, mainly to provide access to VOIP and P2P. Stepped-up surveillance and interceptions have caused outrage among privacy and consumer advocates, drawing telecom companies into a new moral, ethical and business dilemma: how to support legitimate law enforcement and national security needs without compromising their credibility or exposing themselves to costly litigation.
Our panel of experts will address these issues from varying perspectives: law enforcement, telecom carrier, VoIP provider, privacy advocate and consumer representative.
