Directions in VOIP (I)
VoIP has been the entry point for IP-based services for carriers and customers alike and is now a mainstream service. Many providers expect to use VoIP as a building block for more advanced IP-based convergence multimedia services. Near term, however, VoIP has become a commodity, with margins under pressure from P2P services like Skype and real time messaging. Among the issues to be explored in this first of two sessions on VoIP include: evolving network architectures, intercarrier peering, ENUM, security, enterprise solutions, and emerging business models.
