Abstract

Most observers believe that IPTV is the next big wave for service provider revenue. Some service providers argue they make money offering such services. But many North American telephone companies privately say they do not make money on video services. So what is the business case, assuming huge investments in outside plant, server, customer premises equipment, software and content licenses must be made?

The panel will take a detailed financial look at the IPTV business case, including expected capital investment, operating costs and resulting profit margin.

The panel then will talk about the strategic context within which IPTV investments are made, to develop a broader look at the payback from investment.

It will conclude with some perspectives on where revenues will be generated in the future as voice revenues diminish, data service margin falls and new services revenue starts to pick up.
