Microsoft sells 2 million phone software units
Microsoft with its new windows phone 7 software is giving tough competition to apple i-phone and Google Inc’s Android system. Although, still long way to go for the newly launched Microsoft’s windows phone software to beat Apple and Google android system, still the October launched software is in tremendous demand among costumers all round the world. It is being claimed by the Microsoft that they have sold over 2 million of their software units to handset makers’ world wide.
Since its launching in October, the world’s largest software maker has licensed the technology to many handset makers including: Samsung, HTC Corp, LG Electronics etc. Microsoft is now claiming that, apart from the windows phone 7 software they are offering more than 6,500 applications which they are offering for download from online marketplace.
Praising the number of sales of software an analyst at tech research firm IDC Al Hilwa said that “the numbers of sales of the plate form are showing pretty excellent momentum: the new software is not only appreciated by the company, rather almost every one that has used the software has praised its style, functionality and fluidity. Moreover, the numbers of applications that are offered by Microsoft are excellent keeping in view that it is only in the early stage of life cycle.
Although, the progress of Microsoft windows phone 7 software may seems pretty good but if compared to its pinch rivals Google, Apple smart phone market, Microsoft still lags a long way. Just recently last week Apple has declared that 16.2 million of their I-phones were being sold just in the last quarter. Apart from apple, Research in Motion Ltd also claimed to sell around 14.2 million of their black berry smart phones since November 27 ended last quarter. Google is going even faster than Apple and Research in Motion Ltd, claiming to sell over 300,000 of their android devices every day, giving it a mind blowing sale of over 900,000 android devices per month. Google is offering their Android system free of charge to phone makers.
With all these in view, Microsoft is expected to report its quarterly earnings within a week. It should be noted that their shares closes on 33 cents to $28.78 on Nasdaq.
