Expo: Navigon improves traffic feature, intros iPhone car kit
Navigon, the car kit maker for the smart phones is expected to upgrade its traffic feature. One of the biggest maker of the navigation applications for smart phones is now deciding to improve their traffic features by introducing new applications which can allow the user to mount their smart phones on the wind shield of their cars’ giving them safer drive. These moves were announced by the navigation software maker on Thursday at annual Mac conference in San Francisco’s Macworld Expo showcasing the wares of their company.
Traffic Live, is the latest feature of Navigon Mobile Navigator. Traffic Live is offered for free to the users of GPS-based navigation application via an in-built application. This latest inclusion will give users more power to navigate while driving. It is claimed by Navigon that Traffic Live will improve the road coverage of North American roads by 76 percent, which means over 200,000 miles. Apart from large highway roads, Traffic Live is designed to cover more than 87,000 miles of secondary or street roads which enhances the ability of navigator to help you in traffic by providing alternate routes for your desired destination, moreover empowering you in deciding the fastest and nearest route from many different routes shown.
Traffic Live works on the data provided by Inrix. Inrix pulled real time fast speed data from number of different sources such as; traffic cameras, radio reports, speed sensors, drivers report on congestion etc. apart from getting real time data, Traffic Live also uses the recorded historic data to predict the conditions on the route you are going. With the update in Traffic Live, more comprehensive traffic data feed would be used by Navigon from Inrix. Live news coverage is also provided by the Navigon on its Traffic Live navigation application which doesn’t require any sort of activation or downloading.
Another big news from Navigon on Thursday was the launching of its car navigation kit for I-phone 3GS and 4 models. Mounting device, connection cord, charger and a suction holder for the easy attachment of the mobile is included in the accessories. As a promotional offer in Macworld Expo, Navigon is offering their device for $50 which originally cost $60 for a limited period of time. Moreover, Traffic Live add-on is on sale at $15 which originally cost $20.
